Welkom

A small lodge with a big sky, run by people who still believe in being hosts.

Shomatobe sits on the edge of Kuruman, where red earth meets the long horizon of the Kalahari. Our rooms are unfussy and quiet, the pool is deep, and the nights are long enough to actually rest.

Die Boom — the restaurant on the grounds
On the grounds

Die Boom — a short walk from your door.

Die Boom is a separate restaurant that shares our grounds, served under the big camel thorn tree. It's independently run, with its own menu and hours — but a two-minute walk from any of our rooms is hard to beat for supper.

Ask at reception and we'll point you in the right direction and help you book a table.

Reasons to stay longer

Kuruman is a place that rewards slowing down.

The Eye never runs dry, the stars feel unreasonably close, and the drive to the reserve is part of the point.
